Hide faces, number plates, addresses and account numbers in a photo or screenshot. Drag a box over anything private and blur it, pixelate it or black it out — the image never leaves your device.

About this tool
Before you post a photo of a street, a screenshot of a chat or a picture of a document, there is usually something in it that shouldn’t be public: a stranger’s face, a car’s number plate, a house number, an email address, the last digits of a card. This tool lets you cover each of them with a box and save a clean copy, without uploading the original anywhere.
There are three ways to hide an area. Pixelate replaces it with large blocks of averaged colour — the classic look for faces and plates. Blur smooths it into a soft haze, which looks more natural in a photo. Black box covers it completely with solid black. The strength slider controls how coarse the pixels or how heavy the blur is, relative to the size of each box.
For text and numbers, use Black box. Researchers have shown that light blurring and small-block pixelation of text can sometimes be reversed, because each letter blurs into a predictable pattern. A solid box leaves nothing to recover. For faces, strong pixelation or blur is generally enough. The saved image is a new file drawn from the edited pixels, so the hidden areas are permanently changed, and camera metadata such as GPS location is not carried over. Everything runs in your browser; the photo is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I blur part of a picture?
Open the image, drag a box over the area you want to hide, choose Blur and adjust the strength, then click Download. You can add as many boxes as you need, each with its own effect.
Can a blurred or pixelated area be un-blurred?
The saved file only contains the changed pixels, so the original detail is not stored in it. But light blur or fine pixelation of text can sometimes be guessed back by matching patterns. For passwords, card numbers, addresses and anything else that must stay secret, use Black box, which leaves nothing to reconstruct.
Is pixelate or blur better for faces?
Both work if they are strong enough that the face is no longer recognisable. Pixelation is the more familiar “anonymised” look; blur looks softer in a photo. Raise the strength until you can’t tell who it is.
Does it remove the photo’s location data?
Yes. The download is a new image made from the edited pixels, so EXIF data from the camera — including GPS location, date and device — is not included. To strip metadata without editing the picture, use our EXIF Remover.
Which image formats work?
JPG, PNG and WebP, plus anything else your browser can display. The download keeps the original format. For iPhone HEIC photos, convert them with our HEIC to JPG tool first.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is opened, edited and saved by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
