Watermark PDF

Stamp CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, COPY or your logo across the pages of a PDF — centred or tiled, at any angle and transparency, with a live preview. The PDF never leaves your device.

🔒 This tool runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter or upload is sent to our servers.

How to add a watermark to a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box, or click to choose it.
  2. Type the watermark text — or switch to Image and choose a logo — and set the angle, size, colour and transparency.
  3. Choose Centre for one large mark per page or Tiled to repeat it across the page, and pick which pages to mark.
  4. Check the preview, then click Add watermark and download the watermarked PDF.

About this tool

A watermark tells anyone holding a copy what it is: a DRAFT that shouldn’t be relied on, a CONFIDENTIAL document that shouldn’t be passed on, a SAMPLE that isn’t the real thing, or simply whose work it is. Adding one before you share a PDF discourages copying and makes a leaked copy easy to trace back to the version it came from — for example “Copy for J. Smith”.

This tool draws the watermark onto each page you choose. Text is added in a standard PDF font, so it stays sharp at any zoom; text in other alphabets is drawn as a high-resolution image so any language works. A logo can be a PNG with a transparent background or a JPG. You set the angle (diagonal, horizontal or vertical), the size as a share of the page, the colour and the transparency, and whether to place one large mark in the centre or tile it across the page. Positions follow how each page is displayed, so landscape and rotated pages are marked the right way up.

The watermark is placed on top of the page content, and the rest of the document is untouched — text stays selectable and links keep working. Be aware that a determined person with a PDF editor can remove any watermark that sits on top of the content; it is a deterrent and a label, not protection. Everything runs in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib and PDF.js libraries, so the document is never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a watermark to a PDF?

Drop the PDF on the box, type the watermark text (or choose an image), adjust the angle, size and transparency while watching the preview, then click Add watermark and download the result.

Can I add my logo as a watermark?

Yes. Switch to Image and choose a PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background looks best. Lower the opacity so the page underneath stays readable.

Can I watermark only some pages?

Yes. Type the pages in the Pages box — for example 1-3, 7 or 2- for page 2 to the end. Leave it blank to mark every page.

Can a watermark be removed?

A watermark added on top of the page can be deleted by someone with a PDF editor and enough effort, so treat it as a clear label and deterrent rather than security. For stronger protection, combine it with a named watermark (“Copy for …”) so a leak can be traced.

Does it work with other languages?

Yes. Latin-alphabet text is written with a built-in PDF font; text in other scripts, or with emoji, is drawn as a sharp image instead, so any language works.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened, watermarked and saved by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server, and there is no watermark of ours added.
