About this tool
GPA is a credit-weighted average of your grade points: GPA = ฮฃ(grade points ร credits) รท ฮฃ credits. This calculator uses the most common US 4.0 scale with plus/minus grades:
| A | Aโ | B+ | B | Bโ | C+ | C | Cโ | D+ | D | F |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4.0 | 3.7 | 3.3 | 3.0 | 2.7 | 2.3 | 2.0 | 1.7 | 1.3 | 1.0 | 0 |
Some schools use different values (for example A+ = 4.3, or no plus/minus). Check your institution’s policy if the exact number matters.
Frequently asked questions
How is cumulative GPA calculated?
Multiply your previous GPA by your previous credits to get total grade points, add this semester’s grade points, then divide by the combined credits. The calculator does this when you fill in the previous GPA fields.
Do pass/fail courses count?
Usually not. A “Pass” typically earns credits but no grade points, so leave those courses out.
What is a good GPA?
Above 3.0 is generally considered good; 3.5+ is strong and often qualifies for honours or scholarships. Requirements vary by program.
