About this tool
Stores often advertise stacked discounts like “40% off, plus an extra 20% off at checkout”. Those don’t add up to 60% โ the second discount applies to the already-reduced price, so the real saving is 52%. This calculator applies discounts in sequence, exactly as a checkout would, and then adds sales tax if you enter one.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate 20% off a price?
Multiply the price by 0.8 (that is, 1 โ 0.20). A $50 item at 20% off is $40.
Why isn’t 30% off plus 20% off the same as 50% off?
Because the second discount applies to the reduced price. $100 โ 30% off โ $70 โ 20% off โ $56, which is 44% off in total, not 50%.
Is tax applied before or after the discount?
After. Sales tax is charged on the amount you actually pay, which is the discounted price.
